History of Kinsloe House
History of Kinsloe House
Beginnings
Kinsloe House, home of the Woman’s Club House Association of Navarro County, has a long history of serving women of Navarro County since its first inception in 1938, serving as a non-profit organization 501 (c) (3) since 1990.
The original House was a gift from Mrs. Edward W. Kelley (Allie Mac Autry Kelley) in memory of her grandmother, Mrs. H. E. Kinsloe (Katie Kinsloe).
At its beginning, Kinsloe House was the culmination of a dream of many Corsicana women. The Kinsloe House was organized on November 19, 1937, and opened on May 10, 1938.
Since then, individual members, businesses, and clubs have utilized the House for luncheons, club meetings, memorials, receptions, and reunions.
Early Meetings
The Psychology Club sponsored the first luncheon held at Kinsloe House on May 18, 1938, with an attendance 152. Miss Mabel Bonner reviewed Dale Carnegie’s How to Make Friends and Influence People. The price of the luncheon was 50 cents.
1988 Fire & Rebuilding
The original building was lost to fire in 1988. After a massive fundraising effort, the current Kinsloe House building opened on September 15, 1990. Because of the success of the fundraising activities, the completed structure was debt-free.
Modern Facility
Our new building contains approximately 4,100 square feet of space, and includes a stage, grand piano, multimedia & presentation equipment, and a modern kitchen.
